The simplest wager — back a team to win outright. Favourites carry negative odds, underdogs carry positive odds. A push (tie) is extremely rare in the NFL, but bets typically push in that scenario unless a draw line was offered.

Cowboys must win by 7+ to cover. Eagles cover with a loss of 6 or fewer, a draw, or a win.
Wagering on the combined score of both teams. Weather — particularly wind — is a major factor. Domes and warm-weather stadiums tend to produce higher totals, while pace, offensive efficiency, and defensive strength all feed the number.

Combining multiple legs into a single bet for a bigger combined payout. All legs must win. The sportsbook applies its margin to every leg, which compounds — parlays are generally negative-expected-value unless you are correlating legs or attacking soft lines. Use sparingly, and only when you have genuine edge on each leg.

Long-term bets on season outcomes — Super Bowl winner, division winner, MVP, total wins. Higher variance than game betting, but they can offer genuine value early in the season before markets tighten. The edge is locking in a price before the market has full information.

What is moneyline betting in NFL?
Moneyline is betting on the outright winner. Favourites have negative odds (e.g. -150), underdogs have positive odds (e.g. +130). A $150 bet on a -150 favourite wins $100; a $100 bet on a +130 underdog wins $130.
How does point spread betting work in NFL?
The spread handicaps the favourite and helps the underdog. To win a favourite spread bet, they must win by more than the spread. The key numbers of 3 and 7 are critical because many NFL games end with these margins — buying or selling a half point through these numbers carries significant value.
What are NFL totals bets?
Totals (over/under) are bets on the combined points scored by both teams. If the total is 48.5, an over bet wins if both teams combine for 49 or more. Weather, pace, and offensive and defensive efficiency are the primary inputs for totals modelling.
What are NFL player props?
Player props are bets on individual player stat lines — passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, touchdowns, and receptions are the most popular. They allow for deep matchup analysis and are often mispriced relative to game markets, especially for role players whose usage can shift due to injuries to teammates.
What happens if an NFL game goes to overtime?
For standard bets — moneyline, spread, and totals — overtime stats and scores count towards the final result. The winning team in overtime wins the moneyline, and the final score including overtime counts for spread and totals bets.
What is a push in NFL betting?
A push occurs when the final score lands exactly on the spread or total number. For example, if the spread is -3 and the favourite wins by exactly 3, the bet is a push and your stake is refunded. This is why half-point spreads are common — they eliminate the possibility of a push.
