Why 7 and 3
matter

In the NFL, lots of games end with one team winning by 3 or by 7 points: a field goal or a touchdown. Of 186 NFL games that finished between 3 January and 27 October 2026, 31 ended by exactly 3 points and 12 by exactly 7, so 43 games (23%) landed on one of those two numbers.

That is why the classic 6-point teaser moves a line across both 3 and 7. A favourite at -7.5 becomes -1.5, so a win by 3 or 7 now counts. An underdog at +1.5 becomes +7.5, so a loss by 3 or 7 now counts too. Moving a line from -3 to +3 crosses far fewer of these common margins.

Teasers:
quick answers

What is a teaser bet?

A teaser is a parlay of point spreads or totals where every line moves in your favour by the same number of points. In return, it pays much less than a normal parlay. Every leg still has to win.

How is a teaser different from a parlay?

In a normal parlay you take the lines as they are and get a bigger payout. In a teaser you move every line in your favour, so each leg is easier to win, but the payout is much smaller.

What is a 6-point teaser?

A football teaser that moves every line 6 points your way. A favourite at -7.5 becomes -1.5, an underdog at +1.5 becomes +7.5, an Over 47.5 becomes Over 41.5 and an Under 44.5 becomes Under 50.5.

What happens if a teaser leg pushes?

A push is when the result lands exactly on your line. Most sportsbooks either drop that leg and pay the teaser with one fewer leg, or count the whole teaser as a push. Rules differ, so check your sportsbook's rules before you bet.

Are teasers a good bet?

Most teasers are not. At a typical 2-leg price of -120, each leg needs to win about 74% of the time just to break even. They work best when the extra points move a football line across 3 and 7, the most common winning margins.
