What is a futures bet?

A futures bet is on something decided at the end of a season, like who wins the premiership or the Super Bowl.

Example: Bet $10 on a team at $9.00 to win the flag. If they win it, you get $90 back, but your money is tied up until the season ends.

Futures prices move all season as teams win, lose and get injured.

Because your money waits months, small bets make the most sense.

For comparison, as of 5 October, the bookies keep about $5 of every $100 bet on single-game who-wins bets across the games we track.
